The masjid of the Islamic Association of Cincinnati, on Clifton Avenue near the University of Cincinnati.
Before there was a mosque, families gathered in each other's homes for prayers and holidays. In the early sixties, Friday prayers were held at the University YMCA, and then at the Wesley Foundation on Clifton Avenue.
A local Muslim family acquires a house at 2515 Fairview Avenue and turns it into a mosque. Students can walk over from the university and the hospitals nearby.
The Islamic Association of Cincinnati is officially established. Children's classes begin, and in Ramadan the community holds nightly prayers and weekly dinners to break the fast.
Having outgrown Fairview, the IAC buys a larger home at 3668 Clifton Avenue. UC students keep walking over from campus to share food, talk and read Qur'an.
After years of people standing outside at Jumuah and Eid, members give their own funds and skills to design and build a new mosque. It opens in 2003.
Today the mosque is a place of worship and a community center for a culturally diverse community of Muslims from around the world.
